There is a (somewhat-long) thread about mbarcode here.

I think (from memory here):

1. Run app
2. Open (rear) camera cover
3. Close camera app
4. Click scan button
5. Point camera at barcode, focus camera by tapping on the picture being shown
6. Barcode appears in the box on the right when it has been properly acquired

Open the lens cover, start the application, click scan, point it towards your bar code (EAN/UPC 1D or QR/Datamatrix 2D), wait for it to focus and read the data...
