Hi there,

is there a console or bash shell available on the N900? If yes, is the system accessible like a desktop system, e.g. /proc /media and so on?

Regards
Malte

Wonderful!

Will the user have full root access or will the root account be "hidden" in some way?

Those aren't typical bash commands... they are external to bash

man or file aren't available(though no clue why file isn't).

file is in fremantle/sdk free, so, as root, add the following to /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://repository.maemo.org/ fremantle/sdk free non-free

and type

apt-get update
apt-get install file

Then you might want to comment out that sources.list entry and rerun update.
