Hi,

today, Nokia and the postal service made a good job - the new N800 is here

After one hour i can say -
The N800 is better than the N770 (faster, better arrangement of the interfaces, more beautifully Design, and much more ) and i can work with it today and not in 12/2007 ( Apple Iphone )

I have already begun to install:

Bluetooth Keyboard ok; becomeroot ok; Xterm ok, vim ok; midnight Commander ok; cpu-applet ok; kismet ok; zip - unzip ok; gizmo-project ok; myplayer ok; streamtuner ok; oggplay ok; Tetris ok;

Now I look for the following programs for 2007

1) maemo mapper

2) gspdrive

3) VNC Viewer - VNC Server

4) pwsafe

5) GPE PIM Suite

6) Abiword and gnumeric

7) which is your recommendation ???

who can help me and have a link for the running 2007 Version with armel.deb Files ?

An i search a running Bluetooth Maus for the N800 ? - Any Tip ???

Thanks in advance

Fidibus

Everyone is saying the N800 is faster than the N770. Is it possible for you to describe how much faster it feels in general web browsing? The reason I stopped using my 770 is because it was just too slow.

Could you try Nethack and see if it works?

Do you have access to a terminal to run some benchmarks?

If these programs run - then I have time to test the N770 versus N800 speed

Have a look at http://maemo.org/maemowiki/OS2007_Tested_Applications
There you will find GPE.

You said you could install oggplay. The compatibility wiki lists oggplay as not working, though. Can you confirm that oggplay works?
If not, can you please provide the error message when starting from the xterminal? I don't have a N800 yet, so I can't try it myself.
Thanks.

I have terminal access and access to a root shell, but I am not sure how to run benchmarks. Is there a benchmarking program to utilize?

I compiled a few: http://people.bath.ac.uk/enpsgp/benchmarks/

Use the *.vfp.out ones for the N800, *.softvfp.out for the N770.

There's a text file in there (compiling_things.txt) giving compilation commands and source download URLs for those who don't trust binaries.

Cheers,

Si
