is there a reader for n810 that can render an effect like on the attached screenshot?
(black background and white text)

figured it out, it's done in FbReader under the "Colors" tab...
couldn't find it previously

Sorry I did not see this post until today. Yes, the fbreader colors tab will allow almost any combination of text and background colors. I have been using the white letters/black background for reading at night.
