This is really annoying. Whenever I open launcher, hildon-desktop process shoots up to 40-60% and brings the device to its knees. I've recently installed Classic Print, 3D RollerCoaster, Panorama, x11vnc and updated couple of other apps. And yeah I had also installed swappolube which didn't make any difference in my case so I uninstalled it. In fact, I think it made the matters worse :/

So anyway, I've tried modified hildon desktops as well but didn't notice any difference. I'm running my device on 1GHz. Only using 1 desktop with 3 widgets (screenshots below).

I don't wanna reflash, Please help!

Since PR1.2 my N900's battery was lasting for 2 days max, in standby mode and 1 day with low usage. And that is with 2G and no GPRS data transmission. I'm almost sure that the problem was hildon-desktop.

On my device it got stuck at 4-5% all the time. That figure seems to be low, but it does help to drain the battery.

On some other thread here at T.M.O I've found a hildon-desktop package with a fix. (sorry but i don't know from memory where is it). After installing that, hildon-desktop stays below 1%. I can run the N900 in standby for as long as 5 days! Usually for 2 days with moderate use (a few calls and many minutes of wifi, browsing and easy-debian).

I also have Titan's power kernel, but without overclocking or underclocking. I also have half of the extras repository installed.

One question: what idle values are possible on the N900?
I always get 92% to 96.8% according to top which is approx. the same as on any other "normal" Linux computer.
Edit: I am using hildon-desktop 2.2.138-1+0m5

@soeiro: the thread that you mean was this one? :
