I've set up my own Jabber server using Openfire and added a bunch of IM gateways (ICQ, MSN, etc). Really works well for the N800 with the new RTComm package.

After playing with things for a bit with a couple N800's it looks the video conferencing capabilities are just tied to using jingle-audio and jingle-video over XMPP. (I see those listed capabilities for the N800 clients)

Are there any PC Jabber clients that support jingle-audio/jingle-video ?

I see lots of mentions about it on the net but have yet to find a client (beta, alpha or otherwise...)

Do Jabber servers still require a fully qualified domain name (jabber.whatever.com)? I was thinking about running one myself.

If I understand what your asking, I think that would depend if you want to let your server be reached from other jabber servers as part of the global jabber network. However you can still reach outside contacts via another route (like the IM Gateway plugin which is really slick.)

I just set it up as a connecting point for our N800's here and some other friends who wall all their contacts (from multiple services) available via 1 private Jabber account.

FWIW, I had a bunch of trouble getting JabberD to work well with the N800/RTCom beta. It made me look at Openfire, and I've very glad I did. Works great.

Now if I can just fine a PC client that supports Jingle audio/video.
