I downloaded preenv 0.1.2 from the repositries and whenever I want to install it the appman gives an error stating incompatible application package

I can't use apt-get because I want that specific version and not the last version and I dont have internet on my n900 atm.

Thanks

App Manager will only handle apps that are tagged as being user-visible, which preenv is apparently not. You should be able to use dpkg to install it from the command line though.

You'll need to be root first (make sure you have rootsh installed, then run either "root" or "sudo gainroot"), then:
Code:
dpkg -i filename.deb
EDIT: The downside to using dpkg is that it doesn't handle dependencies, so it's always safer to use apt-get (or app manager) if you can.

Since you don't have internet in your N900 you can just use dpkg because apt-get needs a internet connection to solve those dependencies.

What errors do you get exactly? Don't describe it, post it!

"apt-get install packagename" will install a package. You need to know the actual package name though, rather than the name presented in App Manager.

"apt-cache search blah" will search for packages whose name/description match the term given.

If you need more than that then I'd suggest a bit of searching - apt is a standard Debian tool, so there's oodles of documentation out there.
