Closed source package alsa-policy-enforcement.
http://wiki.maemo.org/Fremantle_clos...cement-package

License:
Code:
alsaped - Alsa Policy Enforcement Daemon: for policy enforcement
Copyright (C) 2008 Nokia Corporation. All rights reserved.

--/usr/share/doc/alsa-policy-enforcement/copyright
File /etc/event.replace.d/alsaped starts daemon /usr/sbin/alsaped, which uses config file /usr/share/policy/etc/current/alsaped.conf . If daemon is not running (killed, not started, uninstalled, somehow messed) N900 doesn't have audio at all. So it is very essential. Somebody have focused clever way to play with it: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=900

Is there way we can remove it entirely, but still have sounds on Maemo5? Somehow Nemo/Ubuntu/Debian handle audio (aren't they?).

pulseaudio-policy-enforcement (from MeeGo's git): initial version 07 Oct 2008. Made by same nokia-person (plus bunch of new)

Do they have something common?

Please create new wiki pages as subpages of Fremantle_closed_packages. So for example: http://wiki.maemo.org/Fremantle_clos...cy-enforcement

alsaped cannot be removed, because it is daemon which route sounds sinks/sources between HW sound input/output

This sounds serious. But how is other operating systems using audio of N900? Can we make any noise with Maemo5 without alsaped?

yes, you need to control alsa switches manually and also volume control.

open alsamixer and setup all switches...

I see only one 'Master' when starting alsamixer on N900.
(alsamixer-1.0.20)

I have used alsamixer on laptop and I have 8 bars/switches on it.

I changed address of wiki pages (but I also made some mistakes when moving and reverting). Working address updated to the first post (and http://wiki.maemo.org/Fremantle_closed_packages).

apt-get remove alsa-policy-enforcement

alsamixer -c 0

One set of working values where 'working' means: mplayer is playing music, no headphones connected, audio can be listened.

Everything muted/zero/off, unless other said:
From left to right
PCM not zero (example 80)
HP DAC not zero (example 80)
Left_DAC_L1 not muted
Right_DAC_R1 not muted
Speaker On

----
No idea how to get audio out of headphones (or use microphone)
