I'm getting a strange error in the package manager UI when I try to install "Linux kernel for power user 2.6.28-10power50".

Ok cool, whatever, I'll just use

Code:
sudo gainroot
and run

Code:
apt install kernel-power

Huh: "kernel-power is already installed and the latest version"??

What is going on here? Should I not be using the package manager to install kernel power? Running uname -r shows that I am running the standard kernel.

Maybe you are doing that while running the device in the original kernel . if u do , try to reboot and start the device in the custom kernel ..just idea .

I am running the device in the original kernel; but everytime I reboot, I am still in the original kernel.

How would I reboot into the custom kernel?

you should have the multiboot installed in your N900 , then if you have custom kernel installed , just reboot N900 but you should open the keyboard and don't close it until the device boot up again , then you should see a menu with some options , one of them is your custom kernel . select it and u will start up with it.
If u reboot with closed keyboard , you will not see the boot menu .

YOU DON'T NEED MULTIBOOT FOR KP TO WORK!

If moving from SK to KP just install then reboot.

If you require multiboot then there is a separate multiboot package for KP50

Please do ignore all of adelalgomai's advice.

Run the following command and check whether power kernel is listed:
Code:
dpkg --list | grep kernel-power
Did you try to install it before?
It is marked installed, but if the device doesn't automatically run the power kernel after a reboot, then the previous installation must've failed.

Did you install (or had at one point installed) any packages which modify (or replace) the existing kernel or any packages which modify the boot process of the N900?

Please also include kernel-power-modules package in the install command.

I installed Kernel-Power, then the Kernel-Power multiboot (along with some command line tools in the hopes of triggering a dependency install)... see attached screenshot

I think we're getting closer to thd root of my issue. I can (re)install kernel-power just fine, but kernel-power-flashers dependencies may not have been updated and I can't install. See attached.
