I posted this is the Newbie forum about a week ago, but it got no replies, so I will try again here.

I installed Modest for use with Gmail IMAP. It started downloading all 4000 of my emails. I don't want it to do that, so I changed the settings to the "Recent emails only" option.

It still retains the emails that it started downloading though, and I want to get rid of them because they load before the most recent emails and it takes a long time.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Modest, but it seems to have retained those messages as well as my Gmail account info (i.e. I didn't have to go through the Modest set-up routine; it was already there.

Thanks.

Don't have access to my N800 at the moment to verify this, but presumably the modest cache and settings are stored in /home/user/.modest

Can anyone provide me with commands to remove those files? I'm not familiar with Xterm/command line, and I assume that is what I would have to use to delete these files.

yes, you can use the cmdline.

rm removes a file; "rm -r" removes a directory; "rm -rf" ignores any warnings".

so:

rm -rf /home/user/.modest

would be a start. however, I believe there are other areas...

and be careful: rm is powerful
