I'm not an avid gamer, and I've just learned what Open Arena is, but a couple of readers on MF are asking about a possible port of OA for the N900.

I see its designed for Linux. Is there a possibility of a port, and if so, what do I need to do to make it happen? What will it involve? I see the files are available for download on the official site. What else is needed?

Is the N900 hardware suitable for something like OA?

mikkov said in the Q3 port page that he had already uploaded OpenArena to extras-devel, and it does appear to be there.

I hope it has all the networking menus, that would be awesome.

Is it just a repackaging of the Q3A package, with the OA data files?

Mostly yes, but there is at least most of the openarena differencers included in the engine

I downloaded open Arena, its great! But I want to change the controls so that accelerometer works as a mouse, and the directional keys are for moving/strafing. is this possible?

I played a quick game of openarena on a wlan against a friend on his thinkpad yesterday.

Very cool

I'd recommend avoiding the lava map on the n900 though

I TOTALLY AGREE. The movement is too sensitive for the game. It will be nice to set your own buttons with the QWERTY keyboard. The sensor is also sensitive it shoots even though your thumb is pretty high enough. The game is still awesome though. REALLY AVOID THE LAVA MAP you'll end up killing yourself a lot hahahah
