Well... the title says it all.

Is it possible? I just hate when the thing is vibrating louder than the music I selected.

WARNING: CHANGING THIS FILE OTHER THAN WHAT I ADVISE MAY BRICK YOUR DEVICE, I AM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE IF U BRICK ur N900!

------------------------------------------------
LED and vibrator MOD
------------------------------------------------

In order to do this, you will need to:

* Download and install rootsh from the Extras repository, which will give you root access in the X-Terminal
* Download and install Midnight Commander, the well known file manager which also contains a convenient text editor.

-open x-terminal app
-type 'sudo gainroot' [enter] then 'mc'
-edit the file "etc/mce/mce.ini"
-down the bottom of file is the area you need to be..
-just read the file and its self explaining...
-its as simple as changing numbers...
-save file, exit mc and reboot.

You can turn vibration all off or all on from settings. Choosing individual vibration responses on or off requires the sort of hacking that f2thak is suggesting.

Up to you which you feel most useful for you. (I'm a coward at hacking!)

i rely on my n900 somehwat and have hacked it from day 1, had preordered it so ive had it since it was released and ive only had to flash it once, which was a lot easier than i thought itd be.

actually it was harder to find out how to do it then to actually do it !!

Oh absolutely. You're a capable and confident hacker. But the fun thing about this community is that it contains people like you, who know exactly what you're doing, and people like me who never heard of 'x-term' before they landed here.

I think the trick with responding to a basic question like this one "Can I turn off the vibration on alarms?" is to offer an answer at both levels, and let the user decide which is suitable for him/her.

Basic answer: no, I can either have alarms on or off (though if people would be so good as to provide feedback on tweakr, I believe there [will be] an app for that).

Advanced answer: yes, by using this command line in x-term.

The user can choose.

I said capable and confident - no judgement on experience.

A lot of the difference between us is emotional: you're confident poking around in new stuff. I go forward by baby steps because I feel antsy in x-term. We have a range of users fitting both types.

My case is more that if I ruin this I might lose time in setting up another phone...

But if I would have another phone to rely on and this would be my second one, then for sure I tinker much more.

(my idea initially was to do this since I didn't know if this phone would be good or not... but it just rocks )
