recently my n900 has been acting strangely

when the battery reachs around 20-30% it suddenly drops to the red zone for the main battery icon and shows 0% remaining with only 5 mAh charge left in BatteryGraph

yet i am able to continue to use the device for quite some time after this event

anyone encounter something similar or how to fix this?

thanks

How old is your phone? On your original battery?
I'd say you may need a new one?
There is a good after market one here: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Don't go for the cheap ones. They are not what they say.

Edit: I do also get this problem sometimes. My N900 is starting to act up pretty bad. What you can try is to just reboot your phone. (If you have multiboot, do not open your keyboard when you reboot [don't risk flashing a kernel on a flat battery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]).
At one stage when using the video camera, it went from 54%, to 2% down to 0.1% and then on a reboot back to 20%.

It seems to be having trouble keeping track of the battery power on high usage (CSSU bug?).

its about a year old
i have two batteries, both are original

the strange thing is i can continue to use to the phone for quite a while after the sudden drop to 0%

also using the command "lshal | grep perc" in terminal gives me two lines

one that says battery.charge.level.percentage = 0
another says battery.charge.level.percentage = 20

i found that lshal | grep perc command from this thread btw

Yeah, I just edited my original message and it virtually mirrors what you have said (0% - 20%).

Have you installed CSSU?
