Well, Elop likes them and hasn't fired single one.

They are propably too busy driving with their Ferraris on Länsiväylä to think about such matters. It's all good for them. Besides they know how to make lots of mediocre and bland hardware from Asian components, I.e they are perfect for new Microsoft OEM Nokia that doesn't really require any technology expertise or innovation.

Things have only gotten better for those guys and gals.

Maemo/Meego had decent budget for less than a year. It lived on a shoestring budget for most of its existence.

Heads in the sand, refusal to properly budget the best parts of the r&d, thinking that the E75 or the N97 was a consumer's dream while the iPhone is out there. Perhaps if they had focused on Maemo5 and then aggressively developed Maemo6 (Harmattan) instead of S^3 for their 2010 smartphone portfolio, there could be a bunch of winning Nokias out there in the wild.

But somebody decided to focus attention and $$$ away from in-house OS and went with Windows for smartphones.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. But he didn't.

A shoe string is still huge when compared with nothing

Anywho, like Ari said, they really couldn't do their job with all the Symbian mantra being shoved in their faces so Elop is not really alone in his dirty deed.

Confirms the very frustrating feeling I always had, pre-Elop, that there wasn't a big enough focus on Meego. :-(

No. I do NOT feel sorry for him. He went from being a corporate PR machine for Maemo to the same PR machine for webOS. A corporate mouthpiece. Nothing less, nothing more.

Anyone remember the unfulfilled promise of the N900? Now he's doing the same for HP. After HP dumpred webOS Jaaksi tweeted: "we will continue webOS full speed!"... No Ari, noone believes your lies any more.

He is part of the PR machine, no doubt about it. Though just keep in mind that he was there from the start of Maemo and was one of the forces that made people higher than him try linux in Nokia.

He certainly has a passion towards open source and i hope he continues in somewhere in a high position if he leaves HP.

At least Jaaksi had a vision. Some of the things he mentioned in his blog post about Maemo are still better implemented in Maemo than any other smartphone OS. Multitasking, IM and Skype integration to OS; Maemo still is a pocket sized computer that's always connected. http://jaaksi.blogspot.com/2009/11/m...art-of-it.html

I think it's not Jaaksi's fault that Apotheker's HP wants to be the new IBM. The funny thing is, that today TouchPad and WebOS are better known than ever, and the tablets with discount prices are being sold out everywhere. WebOS is great, but HP would have needed extremely aggressive pricing with a TabCo style campaign to to succeed.

In my opinion, Jaaksi is still "one of the good guys".

21st century socialism:

1. Highly paid individual is involved in a failed venture. Throws up hands and says 'it's not my fault, gov'.

2. Said individual moves on to another highly paid position and is touted as 'the best talent around'.

Rinse and repeat.
