Yeah, you're right of course. I just thought at this crucial junction for Maemo, what with all the vociferous members here arguing about it's future, that there would be many volunteers for the Council.

Yes, it is just that some of us just decided to go for it just because there was not enough participation. 5 people are always better than three

I was very surprised (and ashamed a little, really) to read that some people would like to see me as Council candidate. Excuse me, if I have not stand for some expectations - I though (and still think) that there are many much more appropriate people to do it.

It was even more shock, to see today how few candidates we have, and how people decide to nominate themselves just to give Community a choice. Yea, Texrat is perfectly right, that there was a time - just judging on all "future" threads, it was out of my assumptions scope, that there will be less than 10 skilled candidates. Especially, that beyond nominating Yourself (which form I don't really like, honestly) there was an option to nominate someone else. By the way, my assuming fail may prove by itself, that I'm not right person to candidate

Although I respect (and personally like) every person that nominated themselves/were nominated, I'm little worried of situation, where we lack huge contributors of code, or hardware specialists (MAG, joerg_rw, freemangordon, I'm lucking at You! ). It was also one of factors, that made me to decide of not putting my name into hat. sure, eloquent and communicate "Public Relations" Council members are needed, but IMO not at 100% of Council squad.

Just to make things clear - this is not meant to depreciate people. that actually nominated themselves (and become Council members, as it seems) - they at least did it, instead of just talking about it (like me). So, new Council got IMO full mandate to perform hard work in these stormy days

By the way - looking at amount of work that so (surprisingly) few people need to do, I would like to offer my help @ every possible thing that I'm capable of. I'm really interested in supporting Maemo, even more without honors of being Council member. It's not complimentary declaration - really, ping me if I could be of any help, including "dirty and boring" monkey-like work.

/Estel

Unforunately, TMO is under heavy spambot attack these days, and I am sure this is the reason this thread remained unnoticed by the time SD69 made his post. And yes, Texrat is right in what he said about the rules, but in bigger picture we need active 5 person council, who cares about maemo/n900 future. And if the price for such council is bending or ignoring some rule/deadline, I would pay it. I would propose extension to nominations period till 20th of September. Or at least those nominatios made yesterday and today to be accepted as valid.

@estel - good engineers are rarely good managers, and even so it is better to spend their time in development.

Who can make such a decision? Current council? Seems SD69 is missing (saw something about he is on a forum these days). So only remaining alternative (the one who is active at TMO from time to time) is Texrat. Unfortunately he is in a distant time zone so I would not expect an answer today.

@Texrat - please advice if it is possible for current council to decide on extending nominations period by a few says and if it is who and how should proceed.

Of course the above question is valid for other council members too.

Personally, I have no objection to extending the nominations period so long as determination of the new council is not delayed, but I don't want to contradict Texrat who seems to have already indicated otherwise. I do imagine it might be difficult to get consensus of current council and current nominees. I can't disagree with Texrat. The election thread was on here with deadlines and on the mailing list, and there was a bit of attention on the election even though it was earlier on and not recently active.

For all those who want to nominate or help with the future of maemo.org, thank you for speaking up. I would think we will be able to find a way for you to contribute. We need people to manage package promotions, organize and manage the repositories, etc. Basically, I would like to reduce the budgetary requirements by having trusted community members handle the tasks performed by Nemein and previous distmaster. Feel free to PM me with your skills (which can be more than SW development - we needs things such as website design and reorganization).

(Not on forum - I've been at openhardwaresummit.org and at maker faire this weekend - limited availability).

Actually, I did no such thing. I simply pointed out there had been plenty of time for people to step up. That observation does not obviate a possible extension-- which I am not opposed to given the circumstances.

It just seems like such a mess here, though. I'm discouraged...
