I have no wifi problems with the white one, whereas the black one has very weak wifi reception. As soon as the black device is a few meters from the access point the connection is very unstable. So the wifi is nearly not usable on the black one. The reception of the white one is great.
So I think in your case it is a hardware problem. The same as on my black one. I hope my device will be replaced by nokia.

Forgive my ignorance if I'm the only one that doesn't know what this is but, what is this fenix that is referred to in this entry page 2 of above link November 11th?
