I've actually used WP7 before in the past and found it rather easy to use and have it fit my workflow rather easily.

Odd thing I miss is the low power screen with the notifications on it and I keep double tapping the screen to wake it up. Having voice commands again help out while driving.

So far, it's okay. Skype beta isn't bad either.

I am wondering if it's worth going from L800 to L900

Forward facing camera with shoddy quality is the only thing you'll be missing.

If I were you, I'd go for the new custom ROM for the Lumia 800 and avoid paying for a new phone when invariably the next models are right around the corner.

Help me understand.
What does the "Root Tools" or "custom rom" in WP7 achieve?
What can you currently do with it?

P.S. The RIM PlayBook is going to get Qt-5 framework port, officially!

Believe it or not, there are custom ROMS for some of the WP7 phones that allow you to run unsigned code as well as other things - there's a homebrew effort on it that is somewhat akin to the Android scene.

It's not as active, but it does exist.

What can you currently do with it?
Unlock, run unsigned and somewhat better applications or modifications - there's a folder mod out there that acts like the N9 PR1.2 method (that was out before PR1.2). Registry hacks, CSS edits, custom tiles, custom behaviors... amongst other things.

Not as much as Android, but a bit more than the N9 scene (which is currently picking up)

Great. Another framework. Let's see if that actually yields more than just a few things like weather apps or note taking apps.

I just checked out L900 at ATT . They are out of cyan, and I played with black one a bit. Hardware wise, I prefer the curved screen on L800, but I do like the iPhone like tray for some, and removal of the battery charge door. The font also seems to be bigger on L900 than 800, and I like that.

I can't find a good gtalk app. Do you use it on L900?
