If I knew Note 2 was coming out at the same time as the SG3, I;d definitely wait. As it is, it seems like I;m going to have to choose form factor over specs, and be a bit gutted 6-9 months down the line if the Note 2 comes out...

I would strongly recommend getting Galaxy Nexus. I settled for it after long research, and I am very happy with my decision. As a matter of fact, I tried playing around with my good ol' N900, but it just did not feel the same as before; after making the switch, N900 just feels sluggish and unresponsive. Even though, I do miss the keyboard. A lot.

& you are right about top & bottom Bezel waring space..

they increase overall phone size(height) by about 25%

only phone i know which uses minimum bezel is motorola defy...
