For online dictionary I use pocket.dict.cc

Works very well and is fast. Sadly, I need a online connection.

@davedicius
I've encountered this:
1. http://stardict.sourceforge.net/Dictionaries.php
2. http://xdxf.revdanica.com/down/
3. https://garage.maemo.org/projects/qstardict/

Works it without any problem?

I am new to ur community and recently bought a n900 from a distant friend who was really short of money
To my shock this junk stuff dont have a dictionary of its own and i m following all the steps u pple mentioned to get just a decent quality eng to eng dict.(no voice support needed)
Even the cheapest mobiles too have a normal working dictionary.

most of the links are dead,the redirected ones have corrupted files in it and unable to dwnld from it.
I am a simple user who can understand eng and not codes so if Anyone can help it will b greatly appreciated.

thank you

The dictionaries in the second link should work fine. You need to make sure you select Stardict format instead of XDXF though.

Is there any way to install software from desktop in any manner,or we have to have Internet connection all the time to install any app.

I mean to say like other nokia phones in which we can transfer any pre downloaded app to the phone ,and then install it.

ANYONE have any CLUE

@drjph,

You can download the packages yourself (.deb) and then copy them over to your N900 (e.g. via USB) and then install them on your N900 using dpkg.

However, I would not recommend that method in general, as you would have to download any additional dependencies (other .deb's) as well.
