I'm still using quite a few of the Unix programs I learned back in college, some 20 years ago. Compatibility with old apps can be a wonderful thing.

(BTW, all of Apple's desktop and laptop computers are themselves x86 platforms. Most of my Linux machines have been too. Microsoft doesn't have a monopoly on Intel's hardware, thank goodness. )
