My solution is simple: Paint freehand and erase if needed.
Straight line,
I have made custom brush for that
for me it is faster and easier than native solution.
(I rarely use it though)
Circles,
I just adjust Round Hard brush to the size i want and splash it on the canvas or just paint freehand.
Shapes,
Flat Hard and Hard Round brush is very good for that.
