Strange, but I was able to download my States maps that way.
Then it IS a software problem from the sound of this, they just didnt fix it in PR1.2? weird. It might have to do with excessive battery consumption if connected all the time. Clearly the connectivity issue gets worse when it enters in power saving mode, so that might be the clue of this. On the ohter hand, it wouldnt make sense that they would fix it in the white N9 but not in the others. Could someone from Nokia explain this?

I'm happy with mine, my Hotspots are near enough so I can't tell if it's good or bad.

The WIFI however is abominable.

At home I get no WIFI in my bedroom, where the N900 is showing at least 40%

At work the N900 sees my office WIFI at 20% The N9 often can't see it at all, and won't connect when it can.

In both places if I go sit right next to the WIFI access point it works.

What experience do others have?

hey man, u right!
i have just tried both wifi..
with N900, i open dropbox.com from webbrowser
i choose 3Mb of file and woila... 5 seconds to download
Now i get N9 go to dropbox application, or from webbrowser (same thing), choose 3 Mb file and woila ... more than 15 seconds to download it...

and i look that an Iphone or Android can see wifi net that N9 cant reach..

so N9 wifi have some problems... the hardware should be new !

Of course this will probably depend on your routers and other factors, but at least the N9 needn't always perform worse than other devices.
at the same distance with the same router, during downloading
N900 is more fast than N9
and N900's webbrowser is on desktop style
N9 charge always mobile site and others cant open

You may try to extend your internal wifi antenna or you may look for an option to turn wifi power saving off. Good luck!
