So... this chip, in addition to the running the N900's own touchscreen, can also handle 4 capacitive contacts. Would be great to use these (e.g. place a strip or ipod-like touch wheel on the battery cover for scrolling/seeking tracks/etc.); will they be available through the expansion interface?

I'm still pondering if and how we could make them available. Idea: place them in one line at edge of upper board, so they are readily usable through the 2mm spacer frame, probably at the lower long side of device.

PS: on hindsight I wonder if the Eten Glofiish M800 knockoff of GTA02 - though with massively extended 'mech' - that I used for a while exploits the same chip. It has same display/digitizer like GTA02 but comes with 4 capacitive buttons (which usually been a PITA to use, btw)

faintly related background info, about reprogramming SIM OverTheAir: http://www.techweekeurope.co.uk/news...m2m-sim-134429 This is about embedded SIM but of course same can be done with any normal mini/micro-SIM designed to allow that stuff.

@ bulanula, wicket:
(WIFI, BLE) not yet decided upon. We listed some alternatives in feasibility study. We will most likely use a combined WLAN/BT module since that greatly simplifies BT/WLAN coexistence

See my latest "rant" and crazy ideas for design improvements below.
Please don't abuse bugtracker for forum purposes, the tracker is a strictly technical channel for the devels and BUGreports by users. Answers/comments/suggestions/cheers to the ideas below go here to this thread please! Thanks

[edit] added the relevant parts here for your convenience (and to keep you away from bugtracker ):
Finally: UPPER: should we change shape of UPPER PCB to be flush with
*outside* of case? It seems feasible to simply have a nice finish
on the PCB edge and make that (part of) our "spacer
frame". The "height" above LOWER seems to fit to the
micron. Would also better support the kbd area to avoid bending of
PCB (and thus not causing mech pressure/force to high components on
LOWER: modem) when pushing a kbd switch/key. Otherwise we might need
mech support posts soldered to UPPER and protruding through holes in
LOWER to the battery bay steel, since modem and other large BGA
components MUST NOT get mechanical force bending/pushing them down.

just a further maybe not so spleeny idea: when UPPER creates part of
our spacer frame's outer surface, we should of course have it plated
by gold. And when we already have gold there, why not make this a
few contact pads for e.g. charger-cradle pogo-pins to contact there.
The CRTouch chip's 4 capacitive sensor "buttons" are
another thing that comes to mind. I suggest to have equally spaced
and sized separate gold-plated contacts of maybe 5mm length all
around the perimeter/edge of 0.8mm high UPPER, and use some of them for
predefined assigned functions like charging, leaving the others for
our hw-hacker customers by routing them to solder pads nearby and
maybe even some of them via B2B to LOWER and there to expansion
connectors.

HDMI goes there?

Kommentar 12 von Joerg Reisenweber, Dez 23, 2013

now it takes me away I guess: how about separating above mentioned
5mm * 0.8mm gold pads by LEDs embedded flush into PCB edge? LEDs with 0.8mm
height and some 1.2mm length would nicely separate the 0.8mm high
gold pads by 1.3..1.4mm

I think you lost me oin that one - last time I checked, HDMI/DVI over USB was out of question because of chip used, not lack of physical space, right? Or I'm missing something?

right. And from my point of view nothing has changed regarding that. But Nikolaus once thought aloud about getting HDMI maybe. Basically so far we didn't look into it any further since "too many obstacles anyway, not worth it" - this might change a bit by the idea sketched above. Anyway such contacts can do other stuff as well, e.g. VGA ;-).

Is the Neo900 going to use USB A-B? Seems like it from the 'rant' by joerg

I've been following this thread since day one. I want a Neo900.

I'm due an upgrade on the 1st of Feb. I can get an iphone which will go straight on ebay and I will put all the proceeds towards getting a Neo900.

I can also get android and windows phones as an upgrade. If anyone at goldelico would like a new device as way of part payment let me know. Otherwise it has to be the iphone on ebay.

Thanks
