I travel so much for work lately to remote places that the last thing I want going down on me is my Nokia 770. Whether it's bunny hunting in the deserts of Iraq, diving in the South China Sea, firing sea-sparrows from a Ayatollah class, or just standing in line at the local Panera bread company, I need my 770 to be as tough as me and go wherever I go.

That's why I decided to "buggerproof" my 770.

Looks harmless enough.

Mating ring with the 770.

Fits...barely. I needed to make about 2mm more room on each side of the 770 to accomodate the velcro strap that holds it into place. This whole case is made from glass-impregnated ABS, so using an xacto knife would've taken forever. Being a cobb-salad sort of fellow, I decided to use my bench grinder and a file.

This Nokia just barely fits...that directional pad is probably going to be hard to use.

The power button is dangerously close to the velcro strap. A precise fit is needed here, otherwise the strap will hold down the power button while you tap the touchscreen and when that happens...you're in a world of hurt, mister.

Staying on target.

Case sealed. Completely waterproof and impactproof. Doesn't look half bad from the back either.

Finally...ready for life's little misadventures.

Jeff, thanks for the compliment. It's the Otterbox model 1900-20.

You bad macho, you. I knew the situation was bad out there, but I had no idea those Saturday evening trips to the Mall had gotten that dangerous...

You have given new meaning to a rude comment made in a review: "It looks like a vintage Star Trek communicator."
