Does anyone know who administers the wiki?

I think the wiki is some version of MediaWiki. File uploads have been disabled thus making it impossible (AFAIK) to show images in the wiki. I'd like to request that the admin enable the display of external images by setting the $wgAllowExternalImages variable. Is this possible?

Why not use the real wiki instead?

Why don't I use the "real" wiki?
  1. I didn't know that wiki existed. I simply clicked the "wiki" button at the top of the internettablettalk.com page and found the old entry for privoxy there. If that wiki is wrong, then the sysadmin of ITT should redirect that icon/link to the "real" wiki.
  2. When I try to log in to the "real" wiki, it lets me, but then immediately logs me out, so I can't do any editing. Yes, I have cookies enabled. No, I'm not using privoxy. Yes, I've tried MSIE 7 and Firefox 3. (And BTW, the login page on the "real" wiki isn't https protected by default.)

I apologize for being grumpy. I did not intend to vent my ire at you, but at the situation.

Someone else commented on the first problem, IIRC. Try using https://wiki.maemo.org/ (and it'll solve your other concern as well ;-))

Good suggestion, but I should have mentioned that I had already tried https://wiki.maemo.org/ without success.

I have now tried Firefox 3, MSIE7, and Opera 9.6 on two different XP machines, as well as the web browser on my N800. I am unable to log in to wiki.maemo.org. Or more precisely, I can log in, but I can't STAY logged in. As soon as I navigate away from the "Login successful" (to any other page), I am no longer logged in. To whom should I speak about this issue?

And I still want to know why the "Wiki" page at the top of the ITT page doesn't link to wiki.maemo.org.

There's another thread where someone is having this issue (lost the link now). It seems to exist in Bugzilla, as #3788. If you can help identify the *exact* steps and URLs you visit (and the address shown in your browser at each case), please comment there. Alternatively, if that bug report is so perfect that no additional information can be added to it, just vote for it. (Personally, I think it'd be very useful to detail the exact URLs at each point, and whether it changes if you start at an HTTPS URL vs. an HTTP one).

And I still want to know why the "Wiki" page at the top of the ITT page doesn't link to wiki.maemo.org.
Because Reggie hasn't changed it? Hopefully with the addition of the karma plugins taking data from ITT, there'll be integration the other way - with ITT pointing into more content at maemo.org (although I can see a number of reasons why this wouldn't just be switching the 'wiki' link in the header to wiki.maemo.org).

OT (a little), but this may be one of the inherent issues facing the Maemo Community as we (the council) move forward... Part of the impetus of the maemo.org redesign is lowering the wall of entry. But, if people never know about the actual community website, then we have some more essential work to figure out. GA, Jaffa, etrunko, lardman, and I should maybe discuss how we can deal with some of these issues, no?

Tim

Thanks very much for the pointer to the bug. I've added my two cents and voted for the bug. I'm relieved to know that it's not just me. (Misery loves company!)
