I'm happy to verify that I can connect using bluetooth DUN with my Alltel Motorola VE465 in EasyMer. Thanks! I'm not finding much success with many usefuls apps yet though.

Hiepnautik:

Install an app called "leafpad". It is a good text editor.

Open a terminal.

Type the following:

Code:
sudo chown user:users .chroot
leafpad .chroot
You can switch between Easy Mer and Easy Debian by changing the value of IMGFILE to point to the different images.

In the wiki 'about' Mer, I can't understand this section:

"Does Mer replace Diablo/OS2008 ?
Well...
Nokia won't be upgrading 2008 anymore.
We're talking to see if there could be an official handover (SSU) to 'community support' but nothing concrete yet.
So in that sense, Mer will be one option to updating your tablet if you want something that is either broken, or not in, OS2008."

If you want something that is either broken, or not in, OS2008?

Apart from that, when is the 'finished' Mer expected to come out?
I know 'finished' is an odd term to use maybe for something that may evolve but 'finished' in terms of stable, etc. Version 1.x I guess.

It's been asked, but nobody really knows...

Is Easy Mer any less functional than the regular install?

I must being doing something incredibly wrong with the image extraction process. I am typing gtar xjvf easy-mer-015-1-img.tar.bz2 , does nothing for 3 minutes or so, and then shows the next prompt line. Looking in the directory, nothing has been extracted. I've got at least 3.31 gigs free; so, there should be plenty of space. I also tried as user and root. As a last resort, I tried xarchiver, but no luck either.

Any ideas? THANK YOU!

Thanks qole and meizirkki for the tips. Unfortunately the tar command didn't work either; really strange. I did end up just extracting on my Windows box and copying over to my card, and now Mer starts up!

Am I correct in understanding that there are no applications installed in mer except for the few like a terminal, tear, and leafpad? (I thought OO and Firefox were included, for some reason.) Any way to get my maemo installed apps to show up?

Qole I'm impressed with the speed of the EasyMer chroot, it's like I'm booting directly in Mer... And I love the possibility to get back to Diablo in no time without rebooting
But there's something that is driving me insane... why do I see strange writing (like something_something.applet on the desktop or bla_bla.menus instead of "Extra" in the menu) all over my tablet?
I'll probably post a screenshot later
