I got most of my ebooks on usenet years ago. Ah, the memories. hehe.

I doubt it. Closed, proprietary, DRM-laden "solutions" and a linux computer mix like oil and water.

I use mobipocket reader and there are thousnads of free books at project gutenberg. I'm reading the original Dracula at the moment

People (especially here) talk about DRM as a bad thing, but what is the 'proper foss compliant' way to safeguard one's (properly licensed) work anyway?

ePub format is closed. Amazon not allows 3rd party.

Google for "skindle" for other options, though my recent experience seems to indicate that you need an old version of Kindle for PC to defeat the Kindle DRM.
