I find myself confused. I've found some oblique references to the "stereo audio out" (headphone) port on the n800 also having a "microphone in" function.

Does anyone know for a fact whether or not the n800 has a port for an external microphone (or line-in)?

Yes the headphone socket actually has 4 connections on it. The headphones that come with the N800 have a mike built into the little box where the wire splits to the buds.

If you put just a normal mic in, will you also disconnect the speakers. I was thinking of testing this myself but I would have to make a phone call to try it out. Do you have any advanced info. Nokia here is not too sure.

Did you try a normal mic with maemo recorder?
