I can't get the damn flasher tool to work, and I'm doing everything by the letter! Grrrr.

Trying NSU now, which I hate to do, for some reason. Hope it works.

One time my mic failed to initilize. A reboot worked for me. Makes me nervous. I cannot use this as my primary phone until I can trust it.

If you ever get in such a situation, and have access to xterm (and have alsa-utils installed), you could try this:

amixer -Dhw:0 get 'Input Select'

Should show:

Simple mixer control 'Input Select',0
Capabilities: enum
Items: 'ADC' 'Digital Mic'
Item0: 'Digital Mic'

If not, you may try:

amixer set -Dhw:0 'Input Select' 'Digital Mic'

to check whether it works then. This may not be the issue, but could be a good start to get the pressure on the right direction. This kinds of problems should be zero-tolerated; makes me angry too even though I've never met the problem

(Digital mic is the one that's not in the headset)

That makes me feel better about the unit I returned, I distinctly recall going into alsamixer and flipping between the analog and digital microphone inputs. I noticed when I inserted the headset plug it would automatically switch between them. At least getting it replaced was probably warranted.

I have reflashed using NSU under XP to 42.11·203·2 with no luck.

I reflashed too, with no luck too. So I decided that the mic failure is a hardware failure, and that Nokia.... is dissapointing!
