Hello,

Is anyone working on creating a version of SqueezePlay for N8x0? (My searches on the forum & Google have come up blank). The software allows you to control Logitech Squeezebox devices that stream audio from there music server, SqueezeCenter (available for most NAS and OSes).

SqueezePlay is the software that runs on the SqueezeBox Duet Controllers (Linux / ARM) and IMHO is one of the slickest audio controllers around at the moment (on a par with an iPod experience, but allows both listening to streamed audio directly on the device or control of a Squeezebox stereo system). There are Win/Mac/Linux versions of SqueezePlay available to stream audio from SqueezeCenter servers to a Desktop. But it would be great to have version to stream to a Nx80 and control SqueezeBoxes.

Access to the source code and build instructions (and compiled binaries for desktops) are availbable here:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.ph...d_Instructions
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Nightly_Builds
and this page gives some more info on SqueezePlay (previously called 'Jive'):

Since this software was originally written for Linux (a custome version: SqueezeOS) and ARM hardware (the SqueezeBox Duet Controller) would it take a lot of work to compile it for the Hildon environment?

Any comments suggestions?

Cheers,
Strawman

was thinking about this too. are you saying make it so the n800 can use softsqueeze to play off squeezecenter? right now using the n800 as a remote similar to sonos to control my stereo is great but letting it play would be great too. i am on mac and don't have a upnp server setup which would do the job and havent got shares working right so that i could use canola for the same purposes. maybe a much more knowledgeable person could chime in about whether this is an option since the n8x0 devices work so well with sqeezecenter.

I haven't tried this yet, but I think it should work: use Squeezeplay and run it off debian. Seems like it should work and you should be able to either control a squeezeplayer, or have the squeezeplay play the music on the client side.

another promising thing, which i haven't tried, is that it seems like the screen should be pretty large on debian on N8*0, just might be a bit long. haven't played with it on the device yet and am trying it on my laptop for now.

Good luck.

EDIT: So apparently I have been out of the loop about how the debian work as been progressing. Using EasyDebian Chroot you should be able to setup Squeezeplay to tun within Hildon. Using it on my laptop you have different sizer options which should play nice, and has a great UI. Then, you can either control another player, or pipe it straight from the server to your device. Again, haven't done this, but will someday soon I am sure, or at least by the fall when I have more time (I know, complete noob needs tons of time for something simple like dual booting, although I did it back in the day). Also, even easier would be to use Squuezeplay on the computer playing the music, and set it as full screen then just VNC to it. Guess it depends it you want music on your N8*0 or you want to impress your friends at a party at the house.

Not sure if you are checking this, but I started a new thread with what I hope is a better pitch for the developers out there. Go check it.

Also, after reading and playing around with SqueezePlay, it seems like on the surface it would work great on the N8x0. Great idea.

Great, thanks for pushing this forward.
I've been to the new thread you started and you've done a much better job in getting some other people interested and trying to get this running yourself.
So I will be interested to follow progress in that thread.
BTW, I have nice screenshots of SqueezePlay (running remote-desktop to a PC) that show how good it could look if it could be converted to NITs.
(And I've fiddled a little with the LUA interface language that SqueezePlay uses, which allows you to modify the GUI (through simple text files) even AFTER the binaries have been compiled. That gives a lot of potential to easily tweak the GUI to suit the NIT if the binaries can be compiled.)

There is now a better thread where Squeezplay has been successfully compiled on an n800 at:
http://forums.internettablettalk.com...ad.php?t=32012

with compile instructions at:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68232

Join the thread there if you are interested.
