I can't get speech to work this way i.e. via /home/user/.navit/speech.xml, navit complains about syntax error. I have to put the entry in /etc/navit/navit.xml:

<!-- <speech type="espeak" enabled="yes"/> -->
<speech type="cmdline" data="echo '%s' | espeak -ven+m2+croak" cps="10"/>
<!-- <xi:include href="/home/user/.navit/speech.xml"/> -->

Have you installed the speech engine?

Yes. I have speech working with the speech type entry directly in navit.xml (the include method gives me a syntax error).

Did you put your version back online somewhere?

So far I have not put it back. We should put the power of this thread discussion into bug reports so that we get a more stable version of navit in testing.

Why did you pull your version back? I think all the major problems here came from people who have installed Navit from extras-devel.
Maybe you can contact the author and give him your code instead!?

I'm not a programmer. So I do support the official navit for maemo
http://maemo.org/packages/view/navit/
We all use the same code, maybe they have a few patches that are not in navit-svn-trunk yet.

Its wrong to split the Navit user group in deb-package and self compiled package user. If we put the interest together and do improve our communication we get an official working package quite fast.

What we really need is a Howto set-up this beast for newbies.

Bye
