OQO 02:
- runs full Windows XP or Vista (Linux works too)
- built-in WiFi, Verizon or Sprint WWAN optional
- built-in Bluetooth with headset support
- 1.5 - 2 hrs battery life with wireless, 3 hrs without
- one USB port, one HDMI port
- excellent backlit thumb keyboard
The thumb keyboard is very nice. On the N800 in Google Talk, I was always using the large size screen keyboard which then covered up the chat window, making it impossible to see the rest of the conversation.
Integrated WWAN means I can be on the internet all the time. With the N800, no WiFi AP nearby cut the functionality of the device.
However, the N800 is so much better in terms of battery life. It was freeing to be able to use the N800 for an entire work day without worrying about outlets or chargers. With the OQO, I don't go anywhere without the charger. [update - the OQO extended battery yields about 4 hrs of on-line use, so I don't need to carry the charger everywhere anymore].
The N800 certainly wins on price as well ($400 vs the OQO's price of $1500 at the low end to $2300 for the high-end model with Vista Ultimate, 1GB RAM, a 60GB HD, extended battery, and WWAN).
Both devices have their strengths. It was tough saying goodbye to my N800, I still miss its hackability and power efficiency, but I really like the OQO.
If the N800's successor has a thumb keyboard and doesn't stutter on Youtube videos, I'll be pretty happy about that.
