Who cares for Meego anyway? I don't I'd rather have a strong developed Maemo platform than Meego or yogoo thingie... They shoulda invest in the development of Maemo instead.

Here is a picture I'd call "Nokia and the community"

Let's briefly analyze it...

- Nokia and the community are joined at the hips... inseperable, both need each other to coexist in this form..

- Nokia is standing on thin ice... yet they don't acknowledge it and still try to show off their best form for everyone to see

- Nokia appears a bit old fashioned... yet clean, composed and dignified

- Nokia seems to be slowly screwing the community, but community seems to be enjoying it none the less

De gustibus non est disputandum. Fine. There are millions of people using other OSes on their phones. Also fine, and also bloody obvious to anyone not living in a cave somewhere. These are facts people could reasonably be expected to live with.

What's irritating is the practice of coming to a site focused on a particular OS, and either trashing the OS or the best-known piece of hardware associated with it. Repeatedly. It seems the rational thing to do would simply be to leave us poor benighted folk behind and move on to new horizons. But the person in question would rather perseverate. It's tedious.

I don't mind obvious trolls on ad-supported sites, because sometimes the bait-and-respond cycle pays the light bill. But on sites like this one there's a well-recognized tactic of making the visitor's experience so unpleasant that people want to leave. Often it's a guerrilla marketing ploy. I'm not accusing anyone of being in the FUD Corps, but I'm looking at the other threads and it's getting ridiculous what this person's doing.

Maybe so, but my fundamental argument is the N900's standing as the best device for web access. I dont consider applets with stripped down features to have nearly the same functionality as a tablet like the N900.

I'll give you the speed and bandwidth argument, neither really bothers me that much personally. I can wait an extra 20 seconds for full mobile facebook to load instead of a little app with half the features.

Offline mode for web based apps? Therefore making live services like Facebook and Twitter useless?

Why is everyone so quick to have a go at op? What if he is right? We were all let down by the PR1.2 update and those that say they are happy with the results lead to Nokia believing they did a great job.

They did NOT do a great job, it really shows in the update, some screens I can scroll with keys others I can't it seems like someone spent 5 minutes screwing with a few lines of code and the real time was spent on the Ovi store...

It's a shame as the n900 really had a chance to break the glut of iphone wanabe phones out there, googles phone isn't as open as people would like, but the n900 is faaaaar too tchnical for the average user so puts it at a disadvantage, people who dissagree with me say things like "well I can use my phone just fine" are why Nokia think the job is done, these very people hold a high "rank" on this forum and therefore have a greater say tha the rest.

Simple example, why is the webpage portait option in settings? surely it should just do it, yes we all know it exists but what about the people who can't be bothered to read forums like this?

Click his user name, then click statistics, then click 'show threads started by user'

Get it?

I thought Avatar was not the amazing film it was hyped up to be, if I started 5 or 6 threads saying so I would expect to eventually be told to GTFO...

That is exactly it. 'Easier to say nothing' is true, but jeez, on the slim chance that the OP is not a troll, he needs to realise what a bellend he is being. Hey, he might even realise, change his ways and find that all of a sudden people aren't so against the idea of being in the same room as him.

Let's stop the attitude and just take this as an opportunity to exchange ideas and learn something new.

I understand that personal subjective judgement is all that matters in the end. It's the same reasoning that people use to rationalize spending a fortune to improve their self image; If you feel good about it, then it IS good for you. No amount of debating will change that.

With that out of the way, I find it simpler to look at this as a technical argument and 'award' the 'winner' as the best implementation to be used for a certain usecase.

In this case, the biggest limitation is the device's form factor and the technolgy behind it trying to interface with something that's designed for a desktop computer:
- physically smaller screen
- 'limited' input method
- slow and/or expensive connectivity option which may not always be available (coverage issues)

Hey look it's another terrible troll thread designed deliberately to cause nothing but a flamewar and contribute nothing of value.
