I guess I learned something...

KDE apps (Konqueror in pariticular) can be opened in the Hildon interface... Which is pretty cool actually... I can use all the KDE programs and not have to load the whole enviroment. Just in case anyone finds that useful

Yes,

change the line
startkde &

to
startkde > /tmp/out.log 2> /tmp/out2.log &

After a reboot you'll have a log from kde start. Most likely the error is that some libraries are missing (in my case I had to install the libXau6 package via apt-get)

If you were to read this whole thread, you would find how to fix the problem.

Stopmaemo, stops matchbox, if your running the default theme, if not it fails. This can be fixed by altering the script, as mentioned in this thread, alternately you can change back to default theme, Adria from the control panel, AND THEN REBOOT, before running KDE

This was fixed with XFC& :-)

in the hildon control panel, in my n800, at the very bottom of the left side is Themes, I have not installed any extra themes, my theme is Adria, the default theme, I believe the 770 to be the same?

Set to Adria and reboot, yes this is color theme

asique:

open stopmaemo with vi
press i to enter interactive mode
change the line I mentioned earlier
press the escape hardware button to leave interactive mode
enter :wq! ( : enters command mode, w = write, q=quit, !=force) and press return

penguinbait: If KDE does not come up it does not necessariliy mean that the wrong theme is installed - At least in my case the libXau6-library was missing and kdeinit was complaining about that. It may be the case that the library is per default on N800 but not on 770, though

I understand your point, but didn't he say he was using theme1, the orange theme? That is not default, correct, thus it will never start KDE, right?

Hey steckel
you were right, i was missing some libreries
but now i can't get the window manager to shutdown
if i close it menually (not via the script) kde runs fine
but when i don't close it...
i see both kde and hildon together....
its nice but useless....
