A quick update... As shipped the screen was not calibrated well and felt slow... I was able to hard reset (home-back-power button I think worked) and it reset to completely vanilla android. .

"Good thing" about the APAD 7001 is that you can pick one up on eBay for around $100 or so but I'd be interested in getting the 7002 running Android 2.1
