Did you download the file to yuor N900 and cd'ing to the directory where you put it, before doing that command in xterm?

Download file to /home/user/MyDocs (N900 in native file manager) Asuming you have rootsh installed, if no just open app mngr and download rootsh from there (extras or devel) and then open xterm:

sudo gainroot 'enter'

cd /home/user/MyDocs 'enter'

dpkg -i libsdl-ttf2.0_2.0.9-1osso0+0m5_armel 'enter'

That should do the trick it did for me when i had that problem. If not just try your own command with the file

i think i did what you said

1) check for rootsh
2) sudo gainroot
cd /home/user/MyDocs
/home/user/MyDocs # dpkg -i libsdl-ttf2.0_2.0.9-1osso0+0m5_armel.deb

But then i get this error

shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

/home/user # cd /home/user/MyDocs
/home/user/MyDocs # dpkg -i libsdl-ttf2.0_2.0.9-1osso0+0m5_armel.deb

did i do something wrong? i placed the deb file in the main directory of the n900, this is the mydocs directory right?

try running

dpkg -i --force-all libsdl-ttf2.0_2.0.9-1osso0\+0m5_armel.deb

its the equivalent of using a hammer when your car wont start.

I hope to have a solution for that problem in a day or two, so unless you're really anxious, don't do anything you might regret
