Hey all,

Was wondering if anybody knew if there is a terminal command to turn on the GPS?

I've been doing some digging, and I can only find Python scripts. So, I'm assuming that I would need to make/copy a script to turn the GPS on.

Is this correct?

If such a script already exists, would somebody be so kind as to point me in the right direction?

Regards,
Chris

Ok,

I have found several Python scripts (never coded in it before, so please excuse my noobiness).

This one: http://wiki.maemo.org/PyMaemo/Using_...mplete_example

Does turn the GPS on, but it loops so effectively keeps running. Is there a way to just turn the GPS on, and it stays on after the script has finished?

Regards,
Chris

Thanks for that. The more I can learn about how this all works the better.

I've just realised that I should probably include some context.

I'm trying to make a script, so that when I get into my car, I only press 1 button instead lots.
So far my script can:

Connect to data network
Start Bluetooth
Start FMTX
Boost FMTX power
Start music playing

I would like to add to this simply starting the GPS, but not starting a satnav application, as for short journeys I don't really need it. But, should I need to, then the GPS has me located in the background, so if I choose to start a navigation program, then it should be able to find me instantly.
