We're asking around on other forums about this. This is a chinook deb (as you can see from the URL path). We may need to email Mozilla directly to find out what is going on; the email in the package is mobile-feedback@mozilla.com.

That's a good Idea. The more emails they get, the more likely they'll want to do something about it.

Using n900...

I uninstalled my fennec 1.1 and went to the link to download and install firefox 4 beta. It also gave me the nonsense about it installing fennec 1.1, which is what I just uninstalled.

It just finished installing. I can confirm that this is most definitely NOT an upgraded version that gets installed when you confirm that prompt. I suspect that the installed version from the repos interfers or somehow overrides the repo that the link tries to add to give you access to the newer version. Has anyone gotten firefox 4 beta installed?

You should check this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=63508

This forum is for OS2008. The n900 runs pr1.2 something or other.

The last Maemo 4 trunk build I see is from September 16: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...entral-maemo4/
It looks like mozilla-central nightly builds for Maemo 4 were turned off after that date.

That particular build is broken because of Mozilla bug 579186. You can launch it if you copy /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 from the Fremantle armel SDK to /opt/mozilla/fennec-2.0b1pre on your device, but the result (on my N800 running Diablo) is quite frankly something that's too slow to be usable.

EDIT: Looks like Maemo 4 support has been dropped: http://starkravingfinkle.org/blog/20...#comment-10489 . Supposedly they will take patches to fix things, though a cursory look at the bug suggests it could be a build environment issue, not a code issue.

Thank you for looking into this Steven676! Any ideas on how we can get people to fix this bug so we can move on to get those N810 builds? I'm feeling a bit disappointed here.

Well that's crummy. Is it possible to change the required dependencies to the Diablo/chinook versions without losing any (or at least too much) functionality? io

Ok I know I a a little bit off topic but I had the 1.1, added the repo for ff4 and an update appeared immediately. But the software is now unusable. After 10 minutes I have managed to visit only one website and then nothing. Loading for ever. I also tried to install it on a Milestone XT720 (android) and there its worse. After uninstalling half my apps to make room for the behemoth, I found that it cant visit a site at all. Crashes right on your face.
When I have opera (unofficial project) on one side which opens websites before I blink and MicroB on the other with their own engine, flash support, and excellent UI, I am just starting to believe they didn't try hard enough. Isn't MicroB opensource? Why don't they start with that and improve it?
Maybe it's not worth even trying to get it working on diablo.
