@sdesai maybe its because it uses a cutom search of its own .
@agogdata no it can't be turned to something like that, becasue the widget won't allow you to write in it like on thw widget from the fist post.

That's easily fixable though.
  1. Launch browser.
  2. Type "about:config" without the quotation marks.
  3. Press enter.
  4. Agree to be careful.
  5. Type "keyword".
  6. Tap "keyword.URL".
  7. Press enter.
  8. Adjust the search URL string to un-mobilize it. (i.e. "http://www.google.com/search?client-ms-nokia-maemo&channel=unibox&q=")
  9. Tap "Done".
  10. Close window.

I believe that was the first change I made to my N900 when I got it. The mobile search pages were too painful.

thats a way, another way is to open the browser and type (www.google.com) and you are in the computerized google ----> add it to your bookmarks ----> remove your old mobile search widget and add new bookmark which you just added and you have your original google

Only by default. See the wikilink in my sig to see how to configure it to use any of a range of searh engines.

EDIT: I see a few people have posted how to change the default search... I should point out the wiki explains a number of ways to use a variety of different search engines a la Opera or Firefox
