Hi All,
I have just received an email from NuevaSync that they are stopping their free service and going paid only. Everyone using their free service is getting put on a 5 day free trial before getting disconnected unless they upgrade to their basic 15$ service.

This is very unfortunate for many used this to solve the sync with google calender.
So decision time - whether to use alternatives such as erminig or shell out the 15$.

Well, I don't see why they should give us something for nothing indefinately...

Here in the UK I have not yet received notice - anyone else got the bad news?

15USD/year is not expensive but in my experience Nuevasync doesn't work all that well, it worked well enough for a free service that I didn't take the time for setting up alternatives (even if I was sometimes grumbling to myself) but I'm not sure if I would actually pay for the current service.

I agree - but five days notice is a bit short to check alternatives.
Also, though no fault of theirs, they haven't been able to sort out the multiple calender sync. If they had that, I wouldn't mind paying for service.

here's the whole text of the email I got:
Hi, you are receiving this email because you have a recently active NuevaSync free service account.
We are discontinuing our original free service. Please read below for more details.

NuevaSync's free service was launched in 2007 as an invitation-only site to be used to demonstrate, test and debug our synchronization software. Beginning in 2008 with the iPhone 2.0 update, the service became popular with many smart phone users for their day-to-day syncing. At the time we decided, due to the fact that development wasn't yet finished, that it was not practical to commercialize the service. However, the NuevaSync investors were persuaded to fund the service's continued operation while we worked to finish developing the software. Over the past two years we have worked hard to keep the service running reliably, fix bugs, add features, and we have also learned a great deal about what it takes to deliver great sync service. We've learned that to provide a really good service, we need to offer technical support; the ability to investigate and diagnose sync problems retrospectively; and tools that allow users to check on their devices' sync activity. Now that our software is complete and fully debugged, and we finally have the resources to provide supported service to all our users, we have decided to no longer offer the unsupported free service.

Existing free service users such as yourself have the option to upgrade to our new $15/year basic subscription level.
Basic service includes all the features previously available with your free service plus the following:
Technical support
Remote wipe
Contacts capture
Sync tasks from Toodledo or 37Signals Highrise to compatible devices
Calendar event categories for Windows Mobile devices
We will also shortly add the ability to select which Google contact groups sync to the phone.
More details on our basic and premium services can be found on our web site.

We are using our free trial process (which is normally for new users) to handle the end of free service.
This will work as follows: Your account has been enrolled in the Basic service free trial. The trial period lasts 5 days.
If you would like to subscribe, please log into our control panel web site and click the 'buy' link at the top of the main page.
One or two reminder emails will follow as part of the trial flow.

For those who prefer not to subscribe no action is necessary (except to ensure that any devices you have connecting to the service are appropriately re-configured). This is because at the end of the trial period non-subscribed accounts will be disabled for device syncing but it will still be possible to log in to the control panel site. We hope you have been happy with the service we've delivered in the past and we thank you for choosing to sync your phone with NuevaSync.

I received the same e-mail yesterday. Does anybody know free and good alternatives?

@ oved_etzot: What do you mean with shell as alternative?

"shell out" is slang for paying. "shell out 15$"= "pay 15 $"

I received this email last night.

Been over a year since I've tried any other solution, I should have kept looking, as these things never stay free (Schedule World for example).

Does MFE still not work with Google Calendars? I thought they would have included that functionality by now!

I searched for another possibility to sync my N900 with an online service and found "mobical". You have to install "syncevolution" on your N900 and you have an option to sync "mobical" with your google contacts and calender.

At the moment I'm happy with this service...
