If the guys at your local NSC know what they are doing they'll only replace the MAIN_FLEXX_ASSEMBLY (see 10101 on this picture), which contains the faulty proximity sensor. That's what my local NSC did - they did not touch any software. You should still make a backup, though.

You'll see if your device suffers from this problem if you check your proximity sensor in direct sunlight, as described in post #37.
