I know we have an open source driver for the N810, however by the looks of it development is dead.

I wanted to know if the stlc45xx driver is stable enough for day to day use and if it could support packet injection for things like cracking wep or other pen-testing tasks.

I am hoping to find new ways to put life back into my N810, my HTC Incredible has just about replaced it.

Thanks

not sure about stability, i haven't tried it.
but if your read:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Networking_(Diablo)
it does not support packet injection.

seems like you could use a usb dongle though. which doesn't seem like too much of a hindrance.

That is with the stock closed source driver. I was talking about the open source driver.

one of the first paragraphs on that page (http://wiki.maemo.org/Networking_(Diablo)) says:

This interface is wlan0 and uses the closed-source cx3110x driver. For the NITdroid project an open-source driver http://stlc45xx.garage.maemo.org was created. As it stands, the internal wifi chipset is not capable of injection with either of these drivers.
you where talking about the stlc45xx driver right? or something different?

Sorry, my bad. I must have missed that part. Thanks for pointing it out.

So I guess the only way to do injection is to use an external card

And an external battery (since the usb port doesn't supply enough juice for a wifi stick) and a nest of cables and...
At this point a netbook is more practical.

yeah the external battery or power source is a good point. i keep running into that problem with my 3g card.
if your going to use it mostly in a car its not too hard to just wire it up to the 12v thats already running all over your car, just make sure to drop it down to 5v. this is the best solution i've come up with but doesn't really help if your trying to be completely mobile (walking, biking, etc.).

Has anyone tried to backport the p54spi driver to Diablo's kernel?
