I think the better question is are there actually any apps that are worth having on the N900?
Apologies for feeding the troll, but:

fm transmitter app.

easy debian, which means open office as a full blown desktop office suite. access to the thousands of non trivial debian apps/debs. I can also nip over to freshmeat.net and grab any application there and compile it under easy debian.

But if something like angry birds is your must have app, then maybe android / iphone is for you.

He he, I've just noticed the tags for this thread.

Its available for android, ios, blackberry, symbian s60 and windows mo.
The company were unable to confirm for me if there would be a Maemo version.

Flash 10.1 and AIR, and then I can handle the most of my needs.
You'll see how Full GPU accelerated Flash 3D games will flourish by the end of 2011.

Just thinking, but...
isnt andriod somekind of java-engine ontop of a linux system? And nitroid a opensource project?
Is there any reason why the important stuff from nitroid couldnt be moved to a maemo program, like webOS preenv?
To have the oppurtunity to run android apps, even if 90% only are copies of eachother, is ofcourse a good thing in itself.

That and more.

Yes

It's not the same. preenv works by emulating certain filesystem expectations of webOS games, and gets away with execution due to the fact that SDL is common across platforms. It can only do games, as well, webOS specific apps don't work.

Android has a custom libc and graphical infrastructure, and the rest of the system has a bunch of kernel tie-ins. It gets messy and the best effort to date has never seen the light of day.
