This is it! The problem indeed is missing metadata.txt in the finished english dump. Could it be a bug in the generation script?
There seems to be no bug tracker specially for the dump though.

The dumpathome project is currently generating new Wikipedia archives for all languages. You can download the new archives from within evopedia or from http://dumpathome.evopedia.info/dumps/finished using BitTorrent. Many languages can already be downloaded, but the English version still needs some days, so please be patient.

Fantastic work! Really amazing to have the complete Wikipedia offline on my N900. I've got both the English and Dutch dumps and they work flawless. I even found out how to switch between them (didn't know how when I wrote a review in the download section), but right after that I saw you can switch by pressing the button next (right side) to the input field...
This is the best app I've got by a mile! Thanks to all who made this possible.

This App Works great! But will it be a way to update dumps directly in the N900 (Over wifi or gprs) instead of downloading the whole dump? (3GB took me a long time to download on my poor 256kb connection)

Sigh.. I HATE torrents.. they use to host these directly http (and I accidentally wiped it last time due to NITDROID!).. any kind soul that has an alternative to using torrents to get the data files?

I can put some downloaded archives on my http server if you don't mind downloading from an unofficial source, but that won't be too fast and reliable.

Evopedia does not work with Opera mobile browser installed!
If you have Browser Switchboard set Opera to the default browser, Opera cannot open offline articles!
Is there any way to get Evopedia to use MicroB as browser instead of Opera?? (other than setting the default browser back to MicroB of course)

The entire wikipedia lives in this tiny super phone. Amazing.
