Hi

I'm getting an error when trying to install UKMP-1.621. I have installed python2.5-runtime fine. When I click on the deb in the file manager it launches the app manager, gives the warning about not obtained from Nokia, then says Installing. Installing fails with this message 'Unable to install MediaCenter'

I have tried installing the deb from an xterm and get this error,

Corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive.

Trying the 1-click-install from Maemo doesn't work either. Any ideas?

Rich

So, I am not alone in my frustration at these endless 'red herrings'? Thanks for bringing it up richie and debernardis.

What gives? They have been promoting these, for a while now. UKMP appears on the Nokia site as the #1 "Featured" download? Or how about KAGU? It even shows up as an 'installable application' on the N800 and they are calling it a "PEARL" at MAEMO?

Yet, after many failed efforts, if one looks at the 'details' of each, it says "uninstallable".

If they are in fact not ready, pre Beta or otherwise, they shouldn't even be appearing in the main 2007catalog in the first place, let alone present, as utterly uninstallable or corrupted file or whatever.

Apologies for my tone, but gosh a lot of the software is like that.
As a Palm user migrating over slowwwwwly, this is very discouraging. I am no 'noobie' but I am not a command line programmer either. They really need to pick up their game otherwise this wonderful piece of hardware is just a mere toy with meager functionality.

ion ends rant. Have a happy day!

Strange !

By the way give it us more details ... if you only says "uninstallable" we can't help you.

I've installed Kagu and UKMP both ... and it works both.

I am almost sure this is a problem in garage.maemo.org site when accessed with a n800.
When in Opera I try to click the 1.70 beta version and ask for install, it downloads and starts application manager, but the install aborts and when looking at the register I have "corrupted system tarfile - corrupted package archive". The same if I save the debfile from Opera and try to dpkg -i.

BUT... when I download the debfile with wget in a term window as follows:

wget https://garage.maemo.org/frs/download.php/2497/UKMP-1.70Beta.deb --no-check-certificate

the resulting downloaded debfile is well installable with dpkg -i.

So? Where's the bug?

So it s not a bug from .deb, it s the apache web serveur from maemo or the opera browser which corrupt the file.

I can install 1-click-install Kagu. Just seems to be UKMP problem. Please can someone that has got UKMP already installed, do a fresh install or upgrade to 1.7beta to see if install works.

thanks

As I wrote, install works as long as you don't download from garage.maemo.org using Opera on the tablet. Must be some weird config problem of the web server of maemo.org. You can download the deb from another machine and transport to the tablet for installing.
