Hi folks! This is aimed at all the gps programs. Google and the US Department of Energy are collecting the locations (and hopefully more detail like charge rate and even realtime availability one day). This info is supposed to be available for third party developers, and while the odds are none of us have EVs yet (not even me, though i want one) it would be handy for the future.

On google maps they fall under the catagory "Electric Vehicle Charging Station". I guess they would be POI so it shouldn't be so hard to add into existing programs. (I just tried in Mappero and it added a whole lot more POI than google has! And i can't get any info other than position, AFAIK)

The US DoE site is only relevant to the USA, of course, but google does show a few places around the rest of the world.

That'd be nice later on when i get my EV on the road! haha

What about MeeGo and IVI? I do agree this is a great idea for a future app, and wouldn't it be also be agreeable (?) if MeeGo is the future OS :P

I just thought i'd mention it in case someone involved with Mappero, CloudGPS, and the others notice so they can incorporate it into their code haha. (If that's necessary)

Nice idea, as an EV builder (mostly small conversions like mopeds, bikes etc), if i ever get the need to recharge on the road then it would come in handy.

But isn't there anything like this now?, like for android or iOS

I don't know. I do know the gps systems on OEM EVs take the terrain into account, too. Biased to flatter terrain where possible. That,d be good, too haha.
