OK guys sorry I've been a bit quiet, sooo busy at work it's unreal!
I have PM'd juhar (the maker of the widget) to see if it's possible to either remove the background or make it transparent.
EDIT: Unfortunately the FMTX Simple Transmitter background is hard-coded so we can't edit the background without modifying the source code. I have asked him to issue a modified source code but with the amount of work these guys do I wouldn't hold my breath for anything immediate- we may see an editable background in the next release though.

Hey give it a go yourself! download netpaint / Gimp or any program you want and give it a go...
plus they work better with a very dark theme.
