If you like videos, there's another one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1IM9Vd2_2s

Replicant and SHR running on GTA04. Thanks to recent work on the kernel and Device Tree migration, in future I should be able to take the SD card out of that GTA04, move to Neo900 and just boot it

Notice how smoothly Replicant works on this 800 MHz CPU (that's older version, newer ones have 1 GHz, just like Neo900 will have) without any 3D acceleration! So all you can see on this video is completely FLOSS.

Not really sure what I Just watched. How does this video fit in the world of neo900. Replicant is android? I know I'm Totally lost right now.

Replicant is a FLOSS distribution of Android. Everything that works on GTA04 should also work on Neo900. Neo900 will actually be a GTA04 variant, being able to boot the same kernel etc.

Hopefully I'll soon be able to record similar video, but with Fremantle instead of Replicant/SHR. That would be a great milestone for "NeoFremantle" project

Ya considering the neo900 board is a squashed in-to-fit variant of the gta04..this demo shows that whatever the gtao4 can do...pretty much the same is gonna be for neo900..THAT is the point!..woohoo!
I can't wait to piss around with it!
mean Tecknohakr soundtrack btw

Will the Neo900 support JTAG or a serial console over USB?

Please elaborate what exactly you want to know. There's serial console (UART3) via low-voltage-RS232 in N900 (under battery) which is used by NOLO and kernel as console and which might change to a proper RS232 adaper in Neo900 (just about to check that detail in schematics). There's a spec for serial over USB via RX on D+ and TX on D- (or other way round) which probably won't get supported. There's USB ttyACM which is supported even by ROMBL in some form. There's JTAG on SoC which may or may not be available on Neo900. There's even EmbeddedTraceMacrocell / ETB with JTAG and its special bus, to do in circuit CPU tracing.
What do you want to do?

I asked about JTAG only out of curiosity and am unlikely to do anything with it.

What I'd like to know is if I will be able to connect a USB-to-RS232 null modem cable to the mircoUSB port and hook up a physical terminal such as a VT100 (in reality I'll probably just hook it up to my PC and connect to it with cu or minicom). This would obviously be more convenient than building a cable to hook up to the pad connectors under the battery.

I'd also like to be able to do the reverse and use cu or minicom on the N900 to connect to the serial console of a server.

Latest idea we discuss in the team: add a second micro-USB socket and a FT232 converter within the Neo900. So you can access the console any time you like. With standard cables and no need to open the device. Even if you currently use the normal USB socket in OTG mode. And even use it to charge the battery in that case (no Y cable needed).

Of course, this is a quite new idea and circuitry needs to be reviewed.
