On my Linux desktop it works fine, with libpurple 2.6.1 and 2.6.2. So I recommend to try a newer libpurple (specifically, libyahoo.so and libymsg.so.*) for armel. Here it is for Debian Squeeze armel.

I'm having the same issue. I just installed the telepathy-haze from these directions. I am still searching for an answer. Whenever I enable my Yahoo account it immediately reports "Network Error".
