Another suggestion? maybe the .ini file of the app?

Strange, actually tested it yesterday and it worked. I installed MSN (pecan) protocol plug-in, and selected 'msn (haze)' when adding my msn account on my phone; after that the msn option showed up in the media-im-status-updater applet, selected it, and it worked straightaway. Using version 0.4 of media-im-status-updater. Sorry I couldnt be of much help, can only advise that u try what I tried to get it working.
